A collision between a Metro-North train and a pickup truck in Fairfield County left the vehicle's driver severely injured and caused a road to shut down for a few hours while authorities investigated.
The crash happened on Wednesday, June 14 around 11:20 a.m. in Norwalk when a train bound for New York on the Metro-North Danbury line hit a pickup truck at the level crossing on Commerce Street, according to Norwalk Fire Department Assistant Chief Edward McCabe.
The crash pushed the truck several hundred feet into the Devine Bros. yard.
The truck's driver had to be extricated from the vehicle after the crash, and was taken to Norwalk Hospital in serious condition, McCabe said.
The train had around 20 passengers at the time of the crash. Luckily, none were injured.
The area of the street near Leonard Street, Wall Street, Chapel Street, and Harbor Avenue was closed for a few hours until around 3 p.m. as a result of the collision.
More information about the collision has not yet been released. The MTA Police is now investigating the incident.
